USB Pop Up Not Working

USB Pop Up Not Working

When you plug in a USB device but  you are not getting the Pop Up window, this solution could help. This is the windows that normally comes up when you insert a USB stick prompting you what to do,  for example.

The Problem:

When you plug in a USB device, the pop up window no longer comes up prompting you what to do like it used to. Customers have reported that this happened after a random Windows 10 update, but we are not sure. Nonetheless, we tested this fix and it worked for us.

The Solution:

Microsoft has posted this possible fix. Follow these procedures and hopefully it will help. There is an AutoPlay setting in Control Panel where you can change how your PC opens removable drives. See below:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click on Programs.
  3. Then choose Default Programs.
  4. followed by Change AutoPlay settings.
  5. From the drop-down beside Removable drive, select Open folder to view files (File Explorer) from the drop down. You can also change how specific file types are opened beneath that setting by checking, “Choose what to do with each media type”.
  6. Click Save and reboot your computer.

We tested this and it took a couple of reboots but it did actually fix it in our lab test. Hope it works for you!
